Environment

Attention to and careful management of natural resources and the environment have always been integral to the corporate responsibility of NADRA GROUP companies. The main objectives of these companies in the environmental sphere have been to minimize the impact of production activities on the environment, preserve and restore it, deepen the corporate environmental culture, and promote environmentally responsible behaviour among employees, directing their activities for the benefit of society.

The natural environment undergoes changes during the implementation of projects related to the exploration and extraction of energy, mineral, and water resources (including groundwater). These changes may manifest in the formation of new landforms, disruption of the hydrogeological regime of territories and soil cover, soil salinization, contamination with hazardous substances and industrial waste, as well as the destruction of flora and fauna.

Restoring natural components is considered a crucial part of mitigating the impacts of mining activities. Reclamation measures undertaken after mining operations are completed contribute only partially to the restoration of natural complexes. Further formation and development of ecosystems occur through self-renewal processes. One of the challenges with territory self-restoration is its lengthy duration, which underscores the need for monitoring and scientifically informed management of self-renewal processes. This management aims to reduce the time required for ecosystem regeneration in mining areas. It's also important to anticipate potential disturbances resulting from future environmental changes.

For each environmentally focused project, NADRA GROUP companies developed a specific set of ecosystem restoration methods based on terrain geomodelling. These methods consider all spectrum of possible factors that could influence the future state of the environment and the pace of natural complex regeneration.

NADRA GROUP companies place significant emphasis on the professional environmental training of their staff. Employees underwent environmental audit courses at the State Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, as well as courses at the Department of Environmental Safety at the private higher education institution "Tutkovsky Institute," which is one of the NADRA GROUP companies. Clients of NADRA GROUP companies receive comprehensive environmental support concerning environmental protection during project initiation, development, and implementation. Environmental impact assessment takes into account international and local legislative requirements, the state of the environment, and the prospects for socio-economic development in the region.

Within their expertise, NADRA GROUP companies provide consulting and expert support to the public sector in developing projects and programs for the socio-economic development of regions and post-war green reconstruction.

To accelerate the transition to a "clean slate" society, NADRA GROUP companies support Ukraine's National Action Plan on Energy Efficiency until 2030, particularly by promoting the adoption of advanced technologies that reduce energy and fossil fuel consumption and lead to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.

Recognizing the environmental damage caused by fossil fuels and their contribution to the climate crisis, the NADRA GROUP companies collectively decided to withdraw from the oil and gas service business. Therefore, in 2015, NADRA GROUP companies ceased their production activities in the oil and gas sector and sold the relevant equipment. However, considering the significant experience and deep expertise of the NADRA GROUP companies, a decision was made to actively participate in programs for green transition and transformation in the oil and gas industry.

The NADRA GROUP companies focused exclusively on providing consulting services to extraction companies, particularly in enhancing production from depleted and active fields through the implementation of advanced technologies. The main areas of consulting activities for NADRA GROUP companies included involvement in projects such as using oil and gas wells for geothermal energy production, CO2 storage in depleted oil and gas fields, and addressing environmental consequences of oil and gas industry activities, among others. Through joint venture agreements with HALLIBURTON Company and other partners, NADRA GROUP companies are involved in decarbonization projects – safe and efficient carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Ukraine. In 2021, NADRA GROUP companies and their partners pooled resources to develop effective decarbonization strategies for gas production companies, implement technological know-how to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and establish structured corporate reporting in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

As part of the green transformation processes, experts from NADRA GROUP companies were invited to participate in the development of the Ukraine Facility Plan in 2023 – a financial assistance program created by the EU to support Ukraine's recovery and rebuilding. This program includes sectors such as critical raw materials, green transition, and environmental protection. Additionally, specialists from NADRA GROUP companies participated in the development of Ukraine's National Environmental Policy Strategy, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In the segment of environmentally friendly sports, NADRA GROUP companies have been supporting numerous sailing competitions since 2000 that are eco-friendly.
