Pavlo Zagorodnyuk

Founder and Director of GENERAL GEOLOGY Limited
President of the Public Organization "Ukrainian Association of Geologists" (UAG)

In 1973, he graduated from the Faculty of Geology at Kyiv University (now Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine) with a degree in "Geological Mapping and Mineral Exploration."

After graduation, he worked at Kyiv University as the head of the South Ural Expedition (comprising 30 employees), which, until 1987, completed numerous research projects to increase oil and gas production for the Bashneft Production Association (Ufa, Bashkiria).

From 1984 to 1991, he taught several courses at the Faculty of Geology at Kyiv University.

In 1986, he defended his thesis and received the degree of Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences.

In 1991, Pavlo Zagorodnyuk founded and headed the private company NADRA GROUP to provide integrated services in exploration, development, and production support of energy, mineral, and water (groundwater) resources to Ukrainian and international extraction companies. In Ukraine alone, the company discovered 83 new oil and gas fields and deposits, implemented a number of projects in 20 countries.

From 1993, he served as Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Foreign Economic Oil and Gas Corporation "Ukrzarubezhnaftogaz." The corporation was established by 37 enterprises within Ukraine's oil and gas sector. Acting by order of the Government of Ukraine, it exported products and services of 97 Ukrainian enterprises to the oil production entities of the Tyumen region in Russia and RAO Gazprom, in exchange for counter deliveries of oil and gas to Ukraine.

In 1997, Pavlo returned to the private sector as Chairman of the Board of NADRA GROUP.

Since 2003, he has served as the Chief Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine on foreign economic activities. As the head of a working group, Pavlo developed 22 projects for oil and gas exploration and production in 12 countries across North Africa, the Middle East, Central and East Asia, and the former Soviet Union. One of the outcomes of this work was oil production by Naftogaz of Ukraine in Egypt.

Gradually, Ukraine's market for geological and geophysical services opened to global companies and became part of the global market. The "big four" global oil and gas service companies began operating in Ukraine. Local Ukrainian geophysical enterprises could not withstand the competition and gradually reduced their activities. With the influx of foreign investment, extraction companies in Ukraine became international, leading to a contraction in the market for mineral resource services.

Since 2015, after the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement, NADRA GROUP has ceased providing services to the oil and gas industry to protect the environment. The company transitioned into a consulting firm, focusing on developing green transition and green transformation projects.

In 2021 Pavlo developed and implemented a new direction of activities – project management of a network of independent partners for the efficient and balanced use of the entire spectrum of natural resources.

Expansion of the international network of NADRA GROUP partner enterprises has enabled the development of the ONEGEO.COM project, a global digital ecosystem embodying the ideas of New Geology in the global digital space. As a result of the change in the company's main business direction, rebranding was conducted, and in 2024 NADRA GROUP LIMITED was re-registered as GENERAL GEOLOGY Limited (London, UK).

In addition to production activities, in February 2000, Pavlo initiated and participated in the creation of the Public Organization ">Ukrainian Association of Geologists" (UAG). He was the chief editor of 45 issues of the UAG magazine "Ukrainian Geologist." UAG united 3,345 members, held six all-Ukrainian congresses of geologists, and developed and approved a strategy for reforming Ukraine's geological exploration sector in line with the new market economy conditions. Numerous measures have been taken to preserve the personnel and intellectual potential of Ukrainian geology and expand international cooperation. UAG became a partner member of influential international geological non-governmental organizations, including EFG, AAPG, EAGE, SEG, and many other global professional associations. UAG fosters collaboration with non-governmental organizations in various countries through bilateral agreements. As a national geological association, UAG holds membership in the European Federation of Geologists and participates in projects within the European Union's research and innovation framework programs "Horizon 2020" and "Europe 2027." UAG is also a member of the working group on the establishment of the Geological Survey for Europe within the framework of the GSEU project. UAG views its involvement in enhancing the role of geological sciences in global green transition and transformation as its primary focus.

Pavlo Zagorodnyuk has received numerous Ukrainian and international professional awards.

He is the author of over 100 geological reports and 80 scientific publications.
